Scott Kevern

I love building new things -- starting from a sketch in a notebook and transforming ideas into products that add value for the customer. Professionally, I'm doing this at Cover through mechatronics and computer-aided design. Personally, I'm a passionate maker, with a diverse set of skills and experience in hardware/software projects.

Mechanical Design Engineer
Upon graduation, I moved to Los Angeles and joined Cover Technologies as a mechanical design engineer. I'm currently responsible for the design and implementation of several subsystems, including comfort systems (heating / cooling / ventilation / controls), fenestrations, plumbing, and others.

May - August 2018

Design Engineer
During the summer of 2018, I had the opportunity to design custom interactive exhibits for Boss Display. Working primarily in SolidWorks, I was responsible for the CAD Design / Prototyping of four different water and ball exhibits. I loved the opportunity to flex my creativity and generate new interactive concepts, as shown in the portfolio section of this website (coming soon).

May - August 2017

Drive Unit Quality Engineering Intern
During the summer of 2017, I was invited to work on the Drive Unit Quality team at Tesla Motors. Our team was responsible for all production and field quality of Model S/X and Model 3 drive units. I was able to work with both the data science and quality teams, applying the knowledge I acquired on drive unit design to develop analytical tools and identify issues in both customer vehicles and the manufacturing environment.

August - December 2016

Powertrain Engineering Intern
During the fall of 2016, I took off school to work full time at Toyota's Headquarters as a Powertrain Engineering Intern. I was responsible for designing all of the tools/jigs/fixtures needed to run Toyota's new model engines on dynamometers and complete full teardowns in the US. Throughout the semester, over 25 of my designs were introduced at Midwest manufacturing facilities. Now, many of the designs are in use across the United States in both manufacturing and display environments.

May - August 2016

Mechanical Engineering Intern
During the summer of 2016, I worked in the centrifugal casting and machining department of Honda's Anna Engine Plant. I co-led several continuous improvement projects, and was responsible for managing the scope, schedules, and budgets. I was also able to do CAD for several different teams, ranging from quick-release infrared sensors to shims for repairing precise crankshaft dies.

Mechanical Engineering Intern
During the summer of 2015, I worked as an engineering intern at an aerospace manufacturing facility in Cleveland, Ohio. I worked on several process improvement projects, from value stream mapping and standard work implementation to pushing Lean / 5S efforts across the plant.
